FAAN....read it, love it, take it to heart

We recently found out that our 1 year old has a dreaded allergy........peanuts! Yikes!!!!! On a 1 to 6 scale he is a 3 so while he may not drop dead at the mere whiff of peanuts he can have a very serious reaction to eating some. So we are now avid questioners of restaurants and strict label readers. We now carry an Epi-Pen and he has a medical id bracelet. A hassel? Well yes, but one I will take any day over not having my son around. We went to an allergist and came home with 4 prescriptions and more directions for one we already use. Did I mention he has eczema as well and may be more prone to asthma? Good grief! However , as the days go on, I learn more and more about allergies and how many things contain the dreaded peanut. Besides food did you know that some shampoos and lotions contain peanut ingredients? Crazy, no? So I have a new website or two to help me and others with severely allergic children live our lives as normal as possible. Any one looking for info on anaphylaxis rescue check out the Epi-Pen website. Any one looking for food and allergy info check out FAAN. One of the best websites out there. Even though this is a very serious and potentially life threatening allergy I feel blessed that it isn't worse for us. So as a parent, friend, educator, care giver or just casual glancer I urge everyone to pass on the website and learn something new.
