a contradiction
The other day I was looking up the definition of organic for a survey I was taking. (Yeah, I'm addicted to surveys but that's a whole other thing). Anyhow as I was searching I came across a website that had me laughing out loud. The Organic Consumers Association. As I was browsing their website I found a section called Protest Starbucks. The whole thing talks about the Fair Trade Campaign and Fair Trade Coffee. Okay I can understand that.....basically they are saying in order to be fair to the farmers and help the enviornment you should only buy your coffee from places that deal in Fair Trade Coffee. They of course used Starbucks as an example. Now here is the thing, I am not a giant fan of Starbucks. There are 3 other coffee shop/houses I would rather grab coffee from first but I am not beyond going to a Starbucks. As a stay at home mom who also does daycare I rarely go out for coffee. However on the occaision that I am out I usually hit a Starbucks with a drive thru service rather than drag the kids inside just to get a cup of joe. In the report I was reading they were talking about how they want only Free Trade Coffee to be used. BUT in the same article they also said that there isn't enough Free Trade Coffee being produced to meet the demand. Does anyone see a problem here? How can you blast a company for not using or only partially using a certain product when there isn't enough to use it solely? I mean, come on, really..........are you serious here? That's some seriously funny stuff! So here is what I have to say.........go ahead and ask your favorite coffee establishment if they use Free Trade Coffee so you can then ask them to consider carrying it if they don't. Then order your damn triple double quatro soy mochachinno vanilla frappe latte and drink with enormous enthusiasium! Just make sure not to litter when you're done! ;)p

Hey Alyssa - glad to see a post from you, even if it is about that nasty dark stuff! BUT... a little insiders note: my church is selling coffee. Yep you guessed it girl FAIR trade coffee. Pura Vida is not only helping the farmers BUT the money raised then goes back to help at-risk children in coffee-growing countries. Tell me that you can't beat that! I'll have to buy you a bag and mail it your way. Let me know what flavor you want. Check out there website at www.puravidacoffee.com
Tip back that cup my friend and drink with pride!
