the "old" days

As I sit here drinking my coffee and catching up on email two of my sons are watching Disney channel. As Playhouse Disney is doing their in between shows thing, my oldest has a comment. He is 7 and smart as a whip and in 2nd grade. Here is what he says to me.

Him: "Hey Mom, remember in the old days when Clay used to still be on Disney?"

Me: "Uh, yeah. The old days?"

Him: "Yeah, when I was 4 it was still on. As soon as I turned 5 it disappeared."

Me: "Oh, yeah I remember. But if that was the "old" days then what was it when I was little?"

Him: he looks at me for a moment then says, "No I mean the old days for me. It was when I was still little."

Me: "So do you think I'm old then?"

Him: "No, you're only in your 30's. That's not old. When you are in your 70's then you'll be old."

Me: "Good answer son."

See, only 7 and smart enough to know that you should never tell your mother that she is old! Not only that, now I'll be smiling for the rest of the day at his insight into his life. I never cease to be amazed anew by my kids!
