i used to wonder

Out our bedroom window we look upon the neighbor's house and their bedroom window. Since we have lived here, I always notice that no matter what time of the night, I can always see the glow and flicker of the television. I used to always wonder how can a person sleep all night long with the television on? When I would fall asleep to the TV it would always wake me up somewhere along the line as it intruded into my slumber with noise that shouldn't have been there. Now having had Boy #3 I really wonder no longer. For some reason it was never a major issue with the other two but with this one I always seem to doze off when nursing or burping him in the middle of the night. So I started turning the TV on minus sound to help try to keep me awake a little better. Plus it gives me plenty of light to still see by. Unfortuantely it was a plan that has just not worked out. I find that I still doze off and will wake up with the television still on in the same position as before holding the baby who is generally sleeping away quite content in my arms. Needless to say it doesn't make for the most restful of sleeping. For as soon as I shift my arms to lay him in his crib he wakes up and we have to start the routine over. I've tried getting up and rocking or walking the baby to sleep. I've tried letting the baby fuss himself to sleep. I've tried bouncing a foot or leg or sitting out in the cold living room to feed him all to no avail. No matter what I do, as soon as I sit or recline or lie down I'm off into slumberland. So many mornings I find my television still on and I'm in some very uncomfortable position of half lying and half sitting, holding onto the baby as tight as can be for fear of dropping him in my half concious state of sleep. I know as he gets older and no longer requires eating in the middle of the night it wont even be much of any issue but for now my television always seems to be on. On the plus side I can always know what the current weather is, find the newest products being hawked and catch the early show when they are actually live on the East Coast just by opening my eyes and the flick of an arrow button.
