Former What?

So you might be asking yourself, "What exactly is a Former Vinyl Queen?" Well I am here to shed a little light on the subject. Once, what seems a lifetime ago (about 3.5 yrs) I was a Vinyl Queen. It's true. I had business cards and everything! If you have ever done anything that involved graphic design, business advertising or event promotion, then chances are you to have met a Vinyl Queen. I was the one who could help make all your signage needs and dreams come true. I could help you through it all.....banners, yard signs, engraved plaques, digital prints.....real estate, birthdays, team sports, golf tournaments.....you name we did it. It was great! Fun, fast paced, ever changing and at times extemely exhausting. For 6 1/2 years I was a true Vinyl Queen. I took orders, answered phones, assembled signs (designed a few too!), took inventory, placed orders, calculated employee timecards, was right hand gal to boss 1 and 2. Now I know what you are thinking......sounds like all I was doing was office management right? Well, maybe, but it was more than that. It was family, it was dreaming, it was FUN! So now your asking, "Why aren't you doing it now?" I'll tell you, somedays I would love to be back there again. But do I really want to miss out on my two son's daily accomplishments? Do I want to miss the hysteria of a snail touching their hand or going potty in the toilet for the first time? Did I want to miss first teeth, first steps and first words? NO WAY! I am so thankful that I was able to experience Garrison's first year at home and hope I can only do at least that much with Declan. However, having said that it was a great place to work where you felt constantly needed but in a non nose wiping, diaper changing kind of way. The kind of need where people built great client relationships with you and only wanted you to help them with their orders. Makes you feel important and ego swelled but glad and gracious too. I can always go back to work but I can never reclaim missed childhood moments with my kids. Life is too short to work all the time. You have to stop and smell the sticky table once in a while and enjoy it for what it's worth. Besides, Former Vinyl Queen still makes me smile and gets great looks from the uninformed! Long live the days when giving someone a business card and telling them to give you a call could illicite a raised eyebrow and smirky smile!
